Driver Warning System
The Challenge: To engineer a flexible
in-vehicle data acquisition, analysis, and control system
to acquire simultaneous live vehicle parametric, video
and collision avoidance alert data for real-time and post-test
analysis. It also required network communication between
two test vehicles plus serial communications with a laser-based
range sensor, VCR, and a global positioning system receiver.
Communication with data acquisition hardware was also
needed for measurement of onboard sensors and real-time
transfer of data between moving vehicles.
The Solution: The system involved an
RF based test and measurement system between two vehicles—a
control vehicle initiating the event and a remote vehicle
containing the Driver Warning System. A sophisticated,
interactive data acquisition and control system permitted
data collection on laptops located in each of the vehicles
and real-time alert evaluation based upon locally and
remotely acquired data. Four video cameras were positioned
in the control vehicle and video data was recorded and
time-stamped to the analog and digital data for playback
and analysis.
Customer Benefits: The use of V I Engineering’s
system integration expertise coupled with National Instruments’
SCXI instrumentation and LabVIEW programming language
delivered intuitive user interfaces, advanced network
communications capability, ease of data acquisition--including
real-time--and highly reliable control signal transfer
between moving vehicles.
