Total Quality Management as defined by VIE, is not a centralized
function. Rather, it is a culture that permeates the entire
organization. As such quality activities are present in each of
the process areas. This process area provides overall support
of the quality system by defining enterprise-level policies,
processes and procedures.
The majority of the Quality Control (i.e.,Product Assurance)
activities are systemic within the VIE development process, as
described in the Technical Execution process area. V&V
activities are the responsibility of the project team, which
ensures that the product conforms to the specification(s). They
include the use of appropriate quality standards (e.g., LabVIEW
Style Guide) and verification procedures at all phases and
levels of the lifecycle. The standard VIE lifecycle model was
based on the V-model because it provides a clear coupling of
development activities to verification activities. Internal
peer reviews and external tollgate reviews span the entire
development lifecycle to provide quality checkpoints at all
levels.
